THE PRAGMATIC AND SEMANTIC NATURE OF VOCATIVES

This article is aimed at investigating the pragmatic aspects of forms of address used in the Uzbek language. Forms of address are not limited to the function of attracting the interlocutor’s attention; they are also interpreted as important units that express the speaker’s social status, age, profession, intentions, and communicative goals. The analysis includes examples taken from literary works. The conclusions show that forms of address are actively used to express such communicative purposes as affection, respect, request, discrimination, insult, and irony. These results provide a deeper understanding of the communicative significance of forms of address in the process of interaction.Downloads
