Abstract

Artistic interpretation in piano performance represents a complex cognitive and physical phenomenon that extends far beyond the accurate execution of notated scores. This article examines the architectural framework underlying interpretive decisions in piano playing, proposing a model that integrates structural analysis, embodied cognition, and pedagogical transmission. Drawing upon interdisciplinary research from music perception, performance science, and educational practice, the article investigates how pianists construct coherent artistic statements through the synthesis of analytical understanding and physical gesture. The discussion considers implications for university-level piano pedagogy, arguing that explicit teaching of interpretive architecture cultivates more autonomous and artistically compelling performers. By reconceptualizing interpretation as an architectural process, this article offers both theoretical foundations and practical applications for advancing piano performance education in tertiary settings.
